Reading suggestions for children aged 11 to 16
March 13, 2018

Your child’s English writing skills could improve by one whole grade simply by proof reading work, correcting grammar, spelling and punctuation errors and MOST IMPORTANTLY reading for half an hour every day. For the best results, your child should follow the process below to enhance reading, writing and by applying new vocabulary learnt to WOW school teachers and the GCSE examiner:

1
Go to point number 9 and select one book to read from the list provided or ask the school librarian for suggestions
2
Keep a reading log noting down the page numbers you read daily
3
Note down and list in an exercise book all new words
4
Look up in the dictionary and clearly and neatly write down the meaning of all new words
5
Aim to write a sentence with each new word showing you understand the meaning
6
Select four new words per week from your exercise book and attempt to use these words, as many times as possible throughout the week, when speaking and writing
7
Then select four new words the following week and follow the above advice
8
Keep repeating the above process of using new words every week
9
